PREVIOUS RESEARCH
Access to water is a fundamental human right, with population growth projections of 2 to 3 billion by 2050 coupled with the limited or uncertain supply of fresh water, competition for water is a key driver of conflict and raises concerns about food security.
Agriculture accounts for 70% of the worlds global freshwater withdrawals and efficient irrigation scheduling will help maximize water savings. This research was conducted in Florida, USA.
Objectives of research were to
-
Evaluate the use of Smartphone apps and evapotranspiration based controllers for irrigation scheduling to achieve water and energy savings.
-
Develop irrigation scheduling models in R and MATLAB to optimize the Smartphone apps.
